Injured in a car accident in Limerick?

Are you looking for a specialist car accident solicitor in Limerick? We specialise in helping people like you get back on their feet and get their life back.

An injury from a car accident can range from being a minor soft tissue to a major catastrophic injury. Luckily there are not too many of the latter and the majority of injuries you see fall into the first category to moderate injuries.

The majority of the claims for compensation do in fact arise out of car accidents. It can be quite a shock when the accident occurs and the injured person may not know what to do next. They may be out of work as a result of the injury and this can lead to unexpected financial strains. If you know anyone who has had an accident, you would be doing them a favour by showing them this article as it sets out exactly what they need to do, right now.

What to do in a car accident situation?

  1. Stop the vehicle after the impact. Do not move the vehicle. Turn off the ignition. Breathe. Extreme emotional responses are natural now but we advise to maintain a measure of calm.
  2. If you are able to get out of the car, do so carefully. Set out reflective markers to make the accident visible to others users of the road, especially at night.
  3. Check all passengers for injuries. If an injury is serious, do not move or attempt to treat these injuries without medical assistance. Call 911 and the guards immediately. Wait for an ambulance.
  4. Any witnesses to the accident should be noted by taking their name, address and telephone number. Note the registration, make and model of the cars involved in the accident and the name, address, email and phone number of the parties. Take down the insurance details (policy number and the name of the company) and the drivers licence information. Take photos of the scene, cars, skid marks and also your injuries.
  5. Do not admit liability as this can jeopardize your insurers covering you for the accident if you are to blame.
  6. Do not leave the scene until the guards have arrived and have finished taking information.
  7. Phone your insurance company immediately and let them know you were in an accident. If it is at a weekend and you are unable to contact them, do so as soon as possible i.e. first thing on Monday morning.
  8. Where you were injured in this accident, you may have gone to A&E by ambulance immediately following it.  Where you did not attend A&E, and you believe you have suffered an injury, you should attend your GP for an examination as soon as possible. Your GP may refer you to a physiotherapist and/or other consultants as is necessary in the particular case.

You are best advised to call your expert personal injury solicitor limerick to advise you on the next steps involved in processing a claim for compensation.
